Safety Gates
Over 15% of all labour accidents in Europe(*) are directly caused by people falling off a platform or ladder.
(*based on figures by Eurostat)
Installing a Security Gate dramatically increases worker safety and reduces maintenance costs!

The security gate has been developed as a fall protection for ladder way openings and platforms. It prevents people from walking directly into the opening. It is a self closing gate, moulded completely from Polyurethane and does not operate by means of springs, bearings or electrical parts, ensuring a long working life.
Available in 4 standard lengths and two swing directions (Left and Right), the gate ensures the full safety for people working on platforms.
Applications:
Cage Ladders, Fire Escape Ladders, Working Platforms, Access to Machinery

Key Features:
The Safety Gate has a horizontal swing, not a vertical drop. The design relies solely on gravity. It does not depend on springs, cams, bearings or the operator. When opened, the hinge design causes the blade to travel slightly upward. When the opening force is released, the blade is pulled downward by gravity and swings back to the closed position.
The hinge, blade, pin, block and washer are moulded from ISP Polyurethane. The polymer is coloured throughout with high visibility safety yellow. Galvanised nuts and bolts are included for mounting to angle iron handrail. Tests have been run on both designs to ensure that the gate can withstand a load of 100 kg on the top rail and 75 kg on the mid rail.
ISP Polyurethane is relatively unaffected by sunlight and atmospheric corrosion. Due to its chemical matrix, the material will discolour but not degrade. After 9 months exposure in Arizona and Florida, there was no loss of tensile strength. ISP Polyurethane parts have successfully performed in hostile chemical plant service for 20 years. The Security gate has excellent resistance to most chemicals. Chemical resistance however is dependent on different factors such as concentration, temperature and purity etc.
Installation
The gate comes pre-assembled. Locating just 4 holes (2 for the hinge and 2 for the support block) in the guard-rail posts, allows the gate to be quickly and easily installed and cut to the right size if necessary.
Safety Gate Installation Instructions Low Maintenance & Long Service Life
The polyurethane will not corrode or degrade. There is nothing to wear out, replace, lubricate or paint. Should dust and dirt ever accumulate enough to reduce or impede the gate’s closing action, a simple cleaning procedure can be followed. Removal of the top cover plate, which holds the hinge pin in place, will allow cleaning the build-up from the pin and blade. The gate will continue to perform year after year.
Availability:
The Security Gate is available as a double or single bar, in two swing directions and four standard lengths.
The gate can easily be cut on site to the exact required length with a standard wood saw. Make sure that the swing arm is long enough to contact the guardrail post (by at least 3cm)
Physical Properties
The Security Gate has been successfully tested to withstand a load of 250kg in both vertical and horizontal directions, in accordance and exceeding with mechanical requirements of EN ISO 14122-3
The Safety Gate is completely moulded from rigid Polyurethane which has major advantages compared to steel or other plastic.

Standard mounting material to fix the hinge and supporting block are fabricated from galvanised steel.
(Optional available in Stainless Steel 316, A4 quality)
Swing Direction
After opening the gate it will always swing back to the closed position. The design of the hinge forces the gate slightly upwards when opening and then it folds back to its original position by gravity when released again.

The swing direction is determined by the direction of the gate when it is pushed away when moving from the ladder onto the platform. In this situation the gate always swings away (see drawings and pictures)
Please be sure to check which swing direction you need before ordering the gate.
