The Great Tommy Sleep Out 2026

The Great Tommy Sleep Out 2026

This March, 2 of our staff will be taking part in The Great Tommy Sleep Out, a nationwide fundraising challenge that raises awareness and vital funds for veterans facing homelessness.

Organised by Royal British Veterans Enterprise (RBVE) and supported by communities across the UK, the event encourages participants to spend a night sleeping outdoors during March. By giving up the comfort of a warm bed, participants help highlight the harsh reality that many former servicemen and women face every day.

Raising Awareness for Veteran Homelessness

Each year, individuals, families, community groups and businesses across the country take part in the challenge. Whether it be sleeping in a garden, workplace car park or under the open sky, the aim is the same: to raise awareness of veteran homelessness and fund the support services that help those who have served our country rebuild their lives.

Funds raised through The Great Tommy Sleep Out support RBVE's work providing:

  • Emergency accommodation for veterans in need
  • Mental health and trauma support
  • Employment and training opportunities
  • Long-term housing and community support

These services help veterans regain stability, independence and a sense of purpose after leaving the Armed Forces.

The campaign has grown rapidly in recent years. Thousands of people across the UK now take part each year, collectively raising millions of pounds to support vulnerable veterans and shine a light on the challenges they face.

Taking Part

Two members of staff are taking part in this event: Rob and Dan. Rob, who first heard about the challenge and encouraged Dan to join him, said he was motivated to take part because he has family members who have served in the Armed Forces. He explained that, as they have served the country, it is important that we support them when they need it.

Rob and Dan are hoping to complete their sleepout during a weekend in March. One of the main challenges they expect is unpredictable weather, which can vary greatly at this time of year. While they know their experience will only offer a very small glimpse into the difficulties faced by people sleeping outside, they hope that taking part will help raise awareness and support for veterans who may be experiencing homelessness.

Despite the potential for cold or wet conditions, both are approaching the challenge with a positive attitude. They enjoy camping and spending time outdoors, although Dan is still sorting out his equipment, including whether he actually has a sleeping bag ready for the night.

By taking part in the challenge, they hope to play a part in raising funds and awareness for veterans who need support.

How You Can Support the Cause
